CT Energy Rebate Program

The Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund (www.CTEnergyInfo.com) is designed to provide a financial incentive for energy consumers to become more efficient.  The fund helps you pay for insulation, weatherization and other efficiencies to help you reduce the amount of energy used in your home or business.   It sounds too good to be true, but it is really true. Right now in Connecticut the utility companies are offering a wide range of rebates and government subsidies for energy conservation. If you have Gas and electric heating you may qualify for up to a ninety percent cash back rebate on insulating your home with cellulose insulation. If you need advice or assurance please call our office and we'll explain in layman's terms how the program works.

All CL&P and UI customers contribute to the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund through the Combined Public Benefits Charge on their electric bill.  Customers of Connecticut Natural Gas, Southern Connecticut Gas Company and Yankee Gas Services Company contribute through a conservation charge on gas bills.

Since you are contributing, you may as well look into taking advantage of the program. There is a nominal charge for the service but the savings in energy and weatherization material (light bulbs, power strips installed, etc) help defray the costs.

These Energy Efficiency Programs are reviewed by the Energy Conservation Management Board, approved by the Connecticut Department of Public Utility Control and administered by The Connecticut Light and Power Company and The United Illuminating Company.

Here is how the process works:
  1. You call 877-Wise-Use (877-947-3873) to set up an Energy Audit.  As of October 2010 there is a $75 charge for the audit and the materials.
  2. A home auditor will come to your house and they will complete a battery of tests and tasks.
  3. Blower door testing and blower door guided air sealing.  This is a scientific test that involves the use of a large fan (blower door) that will be mounted in an exterior door. The major sources of of air leakage will be evident to the technician and some of the major sources of leakage can typically be addressed at that point.
  4. Installation of Compact Flourescent Light bulbs will be installed where possible. (bulbs will only be installed in areas not more than 10 feet high and the lights are not "dimmable".)
  5. Installation of water annd hot-water saving measures including the installation of low-flow showerheads and aerators.
  6. Identification of older, less efficient heating, cooling or water heating equipment.  There may be financial incentives or rebates for you to swap out these older appliances.
  7. You will be given a summary at the conclusion of the visit which will highlight work that has been completed as energy saving options that you may want to consider along rebate forms, and additional energy information.

The vendor doing the energy audit is not employed by CL&P or any affiliate of NU.  The vendor is not there to sell you anything.
